Fifth Meeting
Third Lecture Entitled:
VMAT/IMRT Planning in the Elekta Monaco System
On Sunday, 17 May 2026, at 12:00 noon Sanaa time, the fifth virtual meeting was held via Zoom between members of the committees of the German-Yemeni Medical Association (DJAEV) and the German-Yemeni Engineers Association, together with the team of the Oncology Center in Sanaa.
During the meeting, medical physicist Mohammed Al-Droubi provided a clear introductory overview of the workflow for IMRT and VMAT treatment planning using the Elekta Monaco system. This was followed by a detailed explanation from medical physicist Mohammed Al-Asbahi, who presented the individual planning steps and demonstrated practical examples. The session concluded with a brief presentation by medical physicist Osama Ghanem on the steps involved in quality assurance and safety verification of the radiation therapy device, the linear accelerator, using the Octavius II measurement system currently available at the Oncology Center in Sanaa.
The lecture included valuable interventions, questions, and discussions from participants in Germany and Sanaa, which enriched the session and contributed to the exchange of knowledge and expertise. The participants agreed that the medical physics colleagues at the Oncology Center in Sanaa would begin practicing treatment planning on anonymized imaging data in order to gain practical experience and identify specific questions to be addressed in future meetings.
The medical physics colleagues in Germany also expressed their readiness to receive and respond to questions from their colleagues at the Oncology Center in Sanaa as promptly as possible. They further offered to provide online support sessions to assist directly with treatment planning via the internet whenever needed.
At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed to hold the next session on 07 June 2026. The upcoming lecture will be entitled “IGRT: Image-Guided Radiotherapy” and will be delivered, God willing, by Nasr Al-Qahtani.
As previously agreed, this lecture was recorded and will be uploaded to the channels of both associations for future reference whenever needed.
